We want to preserve the charm of our forests for future generations

Filmosa SK s.r.o.

We are a small business striving to make a significant impact. However, we only have one nature, so we try to take care of it as best we can and preserve the charm of our forests for future generations.

Our Forests

Initially, the company took care of several more miniature forests in the east of Slovakia, and, by the law, the forest was cleared, and wood was harvested in it. But, as in every commercial forest, there was also a logging plan, which took place at the same time as the restoration and planting of a new forest. Over time, the forest area owned by Filmosa SK Ltd. grew to approximately 2,000 hectares, mainly in the vicinity of Stropkovo (Svidník district).

Water for forests

Due to climate change, we began to perceive that the soil was drying up and could not hold enough water for the forests to breathe.

This led us to become interested in how to help our nature.

A flood will come
after us…

In the case of forest stands, we could replace this phrase with another one – dry after us… We started looking for solutions and procedures to retain and return water to the forest life cycle. It turned out that no forests in Slovakia have any such measures yet, and it will be necessary to be pioneers and introduce new procedures.

In the case of forest stands, we could replace this phrase with another one – dry after us… We started looking for solutions and procedures to retain and return water to the forest life cycle. It turned out that no forests in Slovakia have any such measures yet, and it will be necessary to be pioneers and introduce new procedures.

The solution was more straightforward than it might seem at first glance. On the contrary, simple procedures often bring great results

In the forests, we started building ponds and dams designed to retain water. The water does not flow through the woods and is not lost; on the contrary, it remains in the forest, where the trees draw it as needed.

By retaining water (where it falls), we increase biodiversity, ensure natural irrigation of groves, improve soil quality, and, last but not least, higher photosynthesis by removing more CO2 from the air.

Our project

Our projects

Climatic benefits are also clearly proven by a scientific study

carried out in our territory by doc. Humble.

He came to the following conclusions:

01.

Creating water retention measures in the volume of 52,600 m³ will ensure an increase in water retention up to

95%

of the rainfall.

02.

2/3

of the retained rainwater is translated into photosynthesis and evaporation, 554,301 m³.

03. Approximately

95%

of the precipitation falls, and 1/3 of the retained water is reflected in the groundwater reserves. The retained rainwater will improve the water conditions and increase the annual biomass increments in the site’s dry matter by 693 tons.

In 2022, we implemented these measures on an area of approximately 350 hectares, and we are continuing at our own expense on another area of roughly 400 hectares. We aim to implement these measures in all forests owned by Filmosa SK Ltd. Within a three-year horizon.

And not only the forest and nature benefit from our help

Such extensive measures also mean creating new jobs for people from the region. (who not only help us build ponds and dams but also take care of their maintenance and cleaning) Our forests can thus breathe freely, and we don’t have to worry about them gradually (for us) drying out.
